  15.             If you received BGFT as a registered package there should be
  16.             the following files on the distribution diskette(s):
  17.  
  18.                  INSTALL.EXE
  19.                  BGFTREAD.ME
  20.                  BGFT300A.EXE
  21.                  BGFT300B.EXE
  22.  
  23.             The last two files are the archived packages of BGFT
  24.             programs and files. They are not "executable" in the normal
  25.             sense; they contain files that are extracted during the
  26.             installation process. There are two files so that they can
  27.             be distributed more easily. If you ordered the files on a
  28.             720K diskette, you should have received one diskette with
  29.             the above four files. If you ordered the files on 360K
  30.             floppies you should have received two floppies; one with
  31.             INSTALL.EXE, BGFTREAD.ME and BGFT300A.EXE on it and the
  32.             other with BGFT300B.EXE.
  33.  
  34.             BGFT300A.EXE contains all the files necessary for a
  35.             "minimal" installation of BGFT on a hard drive. If you are
  36.             new to BGFT, this will be all you need to get going. It may
  37.             suit you for a final configuration too. If you choose the
  38.             minimal installation initially and then want the use the
  39.             floppy based file buffer, the files for Microsoft Windows
  40.             3.1, or the files to run BGFT with other communications
  41.             products later, then you can simply run the installation
  42.             program again.

  44.             The following files are in BGFT300A.EXE:

  46.                  BGFTREAD.ME    This file.
  47.                  BGFT.EXE       The main BGFT user interface.
  48.                  BGFT.DLG       A sample dialing directory.
  49.                  BGFT.DOC       The BGFT documentation.
  50.                  BGFT300.HLP    Help screens for BGFT.EXE.
  51.                  BGFT300.SCR    Other screens for BGFT.EXE.
  52.                  BGFTFB.EXE     Hard drive C: file buffer maker.
  53.                  BGFTHDZM.COM   Hard drive communication resident.
  54.                  BGFTORDR.FRM   Order form to register BGFT package.

  56.             BGFT300B.EXE contains all the other files. If you want the
  57.             full installation, both the BGFT300A.EXE and BGFT300B.EXE
  58.             files will be needed.

  64.             INSTALL.EXE: This is the installation program. It will
  65.             appear with BGFT300A.EXE on a two 360K diskette
  66.             distribution; BGFT300B.EXE will be on the other diskette. A
  67.             720K diskette distribution will have INSTALL.EXE,
  68.             BGFT300A.EXE, and BGFT300B.EXE on the one diskette.

  70.             BGFTREAD.ME: This is a file with information you should read
  71.             for up-to-date information not in the documentation.

  73.             If you have the two 360K diskette registered distribution be
  74.             sure to put in the diskette with INSTALL.EXE on it first in
  75.             the appropriate drive A: or drive B:. The distribution file,
  76.             BGFT300A.EXE, will be on the same diskette. The installation
  77.             program may need the second diskette with the distribution
  78.             file, BGFT300B.EXE; you will be prompted during the
  79.             procedure. If you have the registered distribution 720K
  80.             diskette put it in the drive supports that media; for the
  81.             moment we will assume that is Drive A:.

  83.             To run the installation program go to drive A: by entering
  84.

  91.             Follow the instructions and the installation will be
  92.             completed in a few minutes. The installation allows you to
  93.             quit at any time and start again, if desired.

  95.             Unregistered Package
  96.             --------------------
  97.             Registered users can skip this section.

  99.             If you download BGFT as a Shareware evaluation package you
  100.             should have the two files BGFT302A.ZIP and BGFT302B.ZIP. Be
  101.             sure that you start off in a directory that is not called,
  102.             '\BGFT300', since the construction of this directory is part
  103.             of the installation itself; it is recommended that you keep
  104.             all the files in the same directory. BGFT302A.ZIP allows a
  105.             minimal hard drive installation of BGFT; you may want to use
  106.             the minimal installation just to try BGFT out.
  107.  
  108.             You should use the appropriate unarchiving program to
  109.             extract the above files. For ZIP files you would enter
  110.  
  111.                  PKUNZIP BGFT302A.ZIP
  112.  
  113.             This will extract the three files: INSTALL.EXE, BGFT300A.EXE
  114.             and BGFTREAD.ME. Do the same to BGFT302B.ZIP to produce the
  115.             file, BGFT300B.EXE.

  121.             You start the installation by entering:

  125.             Follow the instructions and the installation will be
  126.             completed in a few minutes. INSTALL allows you to quit at
  127.             any time and start again, if desired.

  129.             Previous Users
  130.             --------------
  131.             If you are a previous Version 2.x user of BGFT and plan to
  132.             use you floppy diskette file buffer, you should reformat
  133.             your regular 'BGFT' diskette and re-initialize the file
  134.             buffer with BGFT.EXE before using the new version. Also,
  135.             after you have installed the BGFT files into the directory
  136.             \BGFT300 you can copy your previous dialing directory into
  137.             \BGFT300 and it will be ready for use. The BGFT Version 3
  138.             dialing directories have a different format than for earlier
  139.             versions but the older ones can still be read by version 3.
  140.  
  141.             Previously registered users should contact Dirac Systems
  142.             about their free upgrades to version 3 of BGFT.

  144.             Trying It Out
  145.             -------------
  146.             To run BGFT for the first time it is recommended that you
  147.             follow the "Trying it Out" example session (Section 3.2)
  148.             included in the documentation file, BGFT.DOC.

  150.             Not Covered In The Documentation File
  151.             -------------------------------------
  152.             1/1. BGFT in Microsoft Windows 3.1 in 386 Enhanced Mode:
  153.             --------------------------------------------------------
  154.             BGFT works extremely well in standard mode of Microsoft
  155.             Windows 3.x. This makes it an ideal candidate for the 286
  156.             users. Users with 386 or higher computers will have similar
  157.             success in standard mode. If you have Microsoft Windows 3.0
  158.             then real mode will work fine too. The operation of the
  159.             Windows program BGFTSPY.EXE will allow you to monitor file
  160.             transfers when running Windows.
  161.  
  162.             However, BGFT's operation in 386 enhanced mode is not
  163.             recommended at this time. The virtual nature of the
  164.             communication port presents some problems that appear to
  165.             vary from machine to machine. If you do get BGFT running,
  166.             which is possible, do not use BGFTSPY.EXE as it will likely
  167.             hang up Windows eventually.

  169.             Although BGFT is primarily a program run in the DOS
  170.             environment, Dirac Systems will make it a priority to
  171.             improve its performance in 386 enhanced mode of Microsoft
  172.             Windows.

  179.             -----------------------
  180.             Version 3.02 (March 1993):
  181.             - fixed lockups when starting BGFT.EXE on some systems.
  182.             - added ability to move files from file buffer to DOS with
  183.             BGFTOPT.EXE. File manipulation for BGFTOPT.EXE brought up to
  184.             BGFT.EXE standard. See Section 6.9 and 6.10 of
  185.             documentation.
  186.             - added description in Section 4.4 of '/s' command with
  187.             residents to allow them to use modem strings instead of
  188.             carrier detect line.
  189.             - added new entries in Section 4 regarding Stacker and DR
  190.             DOS.
  191.             - updated documentation (BGFT.DOC) and changed dates and
  192.             version numbers for many files of package.

  194.             Version 3.01 (December 1992):
